Le château de Caen
Caen, prefecture of Calvados was until 31 December 2015 the capital of the ancient region Basse-Normandie. It is named the "City of a hundred spiers". City of William the Conqueror and capital of the Duchy of Normandy with Rouen, the city has inherited a rich architectural heritage, it has preserved over the centuries until the Second World War. The city has kept the memory particularly edifying in a Memorial for Peace.
Due to its positioning in the search (with GANIL for example), the seniority of his university (founded in 1432 after Paris and Montpellier), its rich culture and its festive nature, Caen is often considered as the cultural and intellectual capital of Normandy. 
Caen is the most populous municipality in the department of Calvados, the third town and agglomeration (after Le Havre and Rouen) in the region.

  • THE BOTANICAL GARDEN : In the heart of the city, 2 steps from the "Saint-Julien ditches", the botanical garden of the city of Caen, a marvel with more than 6000 plant species. Open all year.

  • HILL BIRD : Near the Peace Memorial, special place ... Old landfill converted into Garden extraodinaire diversity. Walking With delight, in the 20 hectares of the park.

  • ABBAYE AUX DAMES : Founded around 1059-1060 by William the Conqueror and his wife. Bought by the General Council in 1983 and restored from 1990 to 1993.

  • ABBAYE AUX HOMMES : The Abbey offers a superb architectural ensemble built between the 11 th and 18 th centuries.   Transformed into high school in the 20th century, it now houses the Town Hall. CASTLE: The castle of Caen is a fortified complex of the old town center of Caen. Founded around 1060 by William the Conqueror, it is one of the largest castles in Europe and home to the Museum of Fine Arts and the Museum of Normandy.

  • QUARTIER DU VAUCUEUX : This popular pedestrian area offers many restaurants. The district Vaugueux has kept its medieval charm with a few wooden buildings.

  • HOTEL D'ESCOVILLE : On St. Peter's Square, the facade of the hotel Escoville hides one of the most typical mansions of the16th century Italian Renaissance style. He became the tourist Caen.

  • THE CHURCH OF SAINT-PIERRE : Substitute a Romanesque church of the 12th century, the current St. Peter's church was built from the 13th to the 16th, in Caen stone. Its particularity is to combine various architectural styles: Gothic, the High Gothic and Renaissance style.

  • TOUR LEROY : Located Boulevard of the Allies, the Tower is an important monument of Caen. It is one of the main remains of the fortifications of the city. This tower was also used as a prison in the late 18th century.

  • SAINT-PIERRE DE CAEN MARKET : Every Sunday morning at the foot of the Tower Leroy, on the Place Courtonne and Vendeuvre dock. Over 400 merchants offer food and manufactured goods. This is by far the largest market in the region.

  • BAYEUX MARKET : Tuesday. Located rue de Bayeux, the Headlands to Rue du Clos des Roses. 40 merchants.

  • GRÂCE DE DIEU MARKET : Located Place du Commerce. 35 merchants.

  • CALVAIRE SAINT PIERRE : Wednesday. 25 merchants.

  • GUERINIERE MARKET : Thursday morning it was the turn of La Guérinière, Liberty Square, and the Green Way, avenue du President Coty.

  • SAINT SAUVEUR MARKET : Friday. Located Place Saint Saveur. 220 traders.

  • BOULEVARD LEROY MARKET : Saturday. Located place of Dr Henry Buot. 120 traders, every Saturday.
